“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign in New York: ALERT: 2019 Memorial Day DUI Checkpoint Enforcement in Nassau and Suffolk County and all of New York is in full effect (and nation-wide). This includes BOATS. Boating While Intoxicated (BWI) applies to boat operators with a BAC of at least 0.08%. The New York DMV considers boats to be vehicles, and so boat operators are subject to DWI-like laws.
According to just the New York State Police, In the last 19 days of 2018 culminating on 2019 New Year’s, State Troopers across New York arrested 783 people for drunken or high driving, and issued 48,877 tickets of various kinds -like “Texting while Driving”, under a “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. So, police check drivers by having drivers perform sobriety field tests and take breathalyzer tests to check BAC levels (Blood Alcohol Content). New York State Troopers and Nassau and Suffolk Police work together.
Here is a list of DWI/DUI roadblocks/checkpoints in the past years on Long Island. These locations, or areas near these places may be used by Law Enforcement this Memorial Day Weekend, (2019).
NOTE: According to AAA, more Americans than ever (Nearly 2 million more travelers than last year planning for this Summer – 2019) will be driving this summer due to lower gas prices.
